Open Position: STAR Transit Vehicle/Bus Driver
General Description
Operates motor vehicle to transport passengers. Work requires contact with private citizens.
Driver must hold a Class “B” Commercial Drivers License and pass a pre-employment drug test and physical prior to employment with Star Transit.
Responsible for care, upkeep and cleanliness of vehicle assigned. Performs daily preventive maintenance activities and safety checks prior to using and at regular intervals during operation of vehicle.
Does a thorough walk-around check of the vehicle she/he will be operating that day. Checks all fluids daily. Checks tire pressure daily.
Operates the vehicle in a safe and appropriate manner. Follows all Texas Department of Public Safety rules and guidelines.
Responsible for collecting fare listed on the roster when passenger boards bus.
Responsible for safety and comfort of all passengers being transported, including getting on and off the bus if required. Responsible for insuring each passenger is buckled up before moving vehicle and that wheelchairs are properly secured. Passengers are dispensed to destinations in a timely manner.
Responsible for fueling vehicle at the end of the day to assure tank is full. Submits all fuel tickets daily to the office.
Responsible for light maintenance of vehicle assigned. i.e. exterior washed and interior cleaned weekly, oil change every 3,000 miles, and reports all other maintenance problems to Operations Manager.
Responsible for vehicle maintenance reports. Reports are to be submitted to the Operations Manager daily.
Driver is to attend all educational and safety training sessions.
Tobacco products are prohibited on all vehicles.
Run errands when time permits and fills in where needed. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
Two (2) years experience in driving/operating delivery or commercial vehicle. Must be licensed by the State of Texas for a Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) and endorsements applicable to the types of vehicles to be operated. Working knowledge of basic vehicle mechanics, maintenance and repair procedures. Working knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations.
Proficient skill in:

Maintaining logs and accurately recording work in progress
Preparing and maintaining records, files and reports
Safe use, operation and maintenance of vehicles
Ability to:
Follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to read and comprehend a map
Drive and ride in a vehicle for extended periods
Move up to 50 pounds
Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures.
